The Important Function Of HVAC Control Valves

A control valve is used to control the flow of fluid depending on how fast or slow the flow of passage is as signaled by the controller. Aside from the control of the flow rate, it also controls the pressure, temperature and liquid level. Without it, it would be impossible to control the flow of the components of the HVAC system as it plays a vital role in controlling the system’s temperature.

Types of control valves

  • Globe Valves
  • Solenoid Valves
  • Butterfly Valves
  • Ball
  • Zone Valves
  • Non-Electric
  • Industrial Valves

In HVAC systems, control valves serve a huge role. It can be controlled in many ways and comes in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. To know which valve is the right one, you need to consider these:

  • Size of Valve Pipe and the flow capacity – Not every valve that you replace is specified correctly, a lot of them don’t control correctly and could be oversized.
  • Connection of Valve body & pattern – 2 way valves, 3 way valves, straight valves, mixing valves, diverting valves, screwed connection, sweat connections, union connection, angle valves, flanged valves, half union valves, flared valves, -, normally open valves and normally closed valves.
  • Actuation- electric, pneumatic, electronic, 2 position, pressure, floating, modulating, self-contained (thermal).

HVAC control valves is important in the systems and it needs to be the right type valve for your equipment. Aside from that, it should be set in a setting that is perfect for your building, location and the weather in your area. Otherwise the flow of control will not work as how it’s supposed to be and can cause damage in the system. And a damage in the system can pose a threat not only to the units and the building but also to the well-being of the people within the establishment. It is recommended that your system should be maintained by a certified HVAC technician as they are the ones that are experts in the field.

It may seem like a small part of the system but it does play a big role with regards to the controls of many components of the system. How you make your settings, how you control it, and maintain it matters and every small decisions in the system could create a huge impact in the function of the HVAC system as a whole. SO it is always good to take special considerations and planning and know the importance of everything in the system.
